Every month Advocacy Coordinator Becca Summers organizes lobby visits to Senators Warner’s and Kaine’s regional offices to discuss key conservation issues and any new statistics or findings as it relates to them.

In April we partnered with Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project (SERCAP) and organized a joint lobby visit with both Senators’ offices in Roanoke, Virginia. SERCAP works to improve the quality of life for low-income individuals by promoting affordable water and wastewater facilities, community development, environmental health and economic self-sufficiency.

In addition to addressing water quality for low-income families in the lobby visit, our Advocacy Coordinator discussed the importance of supporting climate and energy policy, and with the President of Mill Mountain’s Garden Club, explained the need to protect the money within the Land and Water Conservation Fund so it can be used for its intended purpose, which is to protect America’s most important natural areas, such as national parks, forests, land by rivers, lakes or oceans, working farms, and fish and wildlife refuges.
